3/02/02 - As written by Peter Owen: "Our meeting was held at the Cedar Park Lodge on March 2nd at 9am. L-R Peter Owen, Bob Edwards, Dave Ashton, and Don Bowden, "The Edmonton Vindi Boys". We broke up at about 12:30, after 'swinging the lamp' for 3 1/2 hours.  I think that I can say for all, that we enjoyed it and look forward to our next meeting" Pictures will follow as soon as they are developed.

We are back from our vacation and had a wonderful time. The cruise was fantastic, but the weather left a lot to be desired but we had a great time anyway.  While at sea it was overcast, rainy and windy most of the time but by the time we hit Juneau and Ketchican it was not too bad.  Juneau and Ketchican, also known as 'Little St. Thomas' are both old and historic places. They rely on the cruise ships for their bread and butter and rub their hands when the cruise season begins. With three ships arriving every day each with an average of over 2,000 passengers per ship they can get anywhere from 6-7,000 people a day from May to Sept. When we got back to Vancouver we had a chance to visit John and Gabe Wilson. Now it is back to our regular routines but the memories of our trip will linger on.

On July 18th, Bob Edwards, Dave Ashton and myself drove to Daysland to visit Don Bowden.  We are pleased to report that Don is doing well.  His eyesight is coming along great, he is now able to read with his regular glasses, and can now drive for short distances.
We arrived in Daysland at approximately 11:30 AM  and swung the lamp until about 2:30, when we left to drive back to Edmonton.
We would like to thank Jill for the lovely lunch she put on for us.  Unfortunately, she would not allow us to take a photo of her.  I think she is a little camera shy, but  really would have liked to have her picture along with the rest of us.  Maybe another time.
All of us had cameras with us, so no doubt you will be receiving more pictures from Dave and Bob, if you haven't already.
The pictures tell the story of how very dry it is here.  Notice that the grass is all brown, no green.
We would also like to thank Bob Edwards for chauffeuring us safely to and from Daysland.  We really appreciated it.

We arrived in Edmonton on Friday Aug 9th. Contacted Peter Owen and made arrangements to meet for breakfast the next morning with Dave Ashton and Bob Edwards.  We met Saturday morning and talked for a couple of hours relating tales of our sea careers and how we arrived in Canada.  Dave offered us the hospitality of his home so we followed him to St. Albert. After meeting with his wife Gloria we were given a tour of the area by Dave.  We all met for dinner and it was great to get acquainted with the wives.  We enjoyed the company and it is a privilege to be part of this group.  We extended an invitation to our new shipmates to call on us when they are going to be traveling through Winnipeg and they will be welcome to stay with us.

On Sunday Sharon and I did the Edmonton Mall thing for the day. When we returned Gloria had made a Wonderful dinner of roast beef and Yorkshire pudding it was great! Have not had Yorkshire pudding in a long time.  We left early Monday morning to begin our travels back to Winnipeg.
